Stamps can be defined in a number of different ways which in turn create a number of different hobbies around stamps and stamp collecting. Stamps to most people are the sticky square things that people put on their envelopes to show proof of postage payment, but to others they can be items that are used to create similar images or text on a number of different pieces of paper (e.g. date stamps). Whichever definition a person uses for their stamps, the collecting hobby remains as fun.

One of the reasons that the stamp collecting hobby is as fun as it is has to do with the fact that there are so many different types of stamps out there. Stamps from different countries and with different pictures and categories are easily available to the average stamp collector of today and the presence of the internet has made the process of assembling a large collection of stamps all the more easy to do. Stamps will likely get more popular as a collection item as time goes on and more people get involved in the hobby.
